Then Play On is the third studio album by blues-rock band Fleetwood Mac, first released in September 1969. It was the first of their original albums to feature Danny Kirwan and the last with Peter Green.

Jeremy Spencer did not feature on the album apart from "a couple of piano things" (according to Mick Fleetwood in Q magazine in 1990). The record, appearing after the group's sudden success in the pop charts, offered a broader stylistic range than the classic blues of the group's first two albums. The title is taken from Duke Orsino's opening line, "If music be the food of love, then play on, " from William Shakespeare's comedy play Twelfth night. The Fleetwood Mac of 1970, before Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined the group, was primarily a British blues band.

Fleetwood Mac continues today as one of the most enduring and successful rock bands in history. Then Play On is a reminder of how pervasive and powerful Green's influence was on Mac's originality and individual stance beyond his involvement. Kiln House is the fourth album by British rock band Fleetwood Mac, released in 1970.

This is the first of the post-Peter Green Fleetwood Mac albums, and their last album to feature Jeremy Spencer. Christine McVie was present at the recording sessions and contributed backing vocals and cover art, although she was not a full member of the band until shortly after the album's completion. Spencer's retro 50s homages and parodies dominate the album, but Danny Kirwan's more sincere songs are almost equally prominent. "Buddy's Song" is credited to Buddy Holly's mother, but is basically the song "Peggy Sue Got Married" with new lyrics listing a number of Buddy Holly song titles. None of this may be as intense as the music they cut with Peter Green running the show, but in its relaxed way Kiln House represents the same virtuoso blues-rock outfit having a little fun while making a record -- think of it as roughly Fleetwood Mac's equivalent to the Rolling Stones' Between the Buttons. Future Games is the fifth studio album by British rock band Fleetwood Mac, released in 1971. It was their first album with American guitarist Bob Welch and the first to feature Christine McVie as a full member. Without the 1950s leanings of departed guitarist Jeremy Spencer, the band moved further away from blues and closer to the melodic pop sound that would finally break them into America four years later.

By the time of this album's release, Jeremy Spencer had been replaced by Bob Welch and Christine McVie had begun to assert herself more as a singer and songwriter. The result is a distinct move toward folk-rock and pop... Are Trees is the sixth studio album by British rock band Fleetwood Mac, released in 1972. This is their last album to feature Danny Kirwan, who was fired during the album's supporting tour.

In the wake of the band's success in the mid-70s, Bare Trees peaked at No. The album features the original version of "Sentimental Lady, " which was later re-recorded by its composer Bob Welch (with Mick Fleetwood, Christine McVie, and Lindsey Buckingham backing him) for his solo album French Kiss. "Spare Me a Little of Your Love" became a staple of the band's live act from 1972-77. "Spare Me a Little of Your Love" was also covered by Johnny Rivers on his studio album "New Lovers and Old Friends" in 1975, the same year that Fleetwood Mac broke through in the United States with their self-titled album.

Arguably the first consistently strong album Fleetwood Mac ever recorded... 1972's Bare Trees is also the album where the band finally defines its post-blues musical personality... ALL THESE FOUR LP'S ARE housed in a striking black slipcase. To ensure superb sound quality, Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering cut the lacquers for all four albums.

The records look as good as they sound thanks to authentically reproduced packages, including gatefolds for Then Play On and Kiln House and single sleeves for Future Games and Bare Trees. The set follows the band through an early transitional period.

With Kiln House, Fleetwood Mac began moving toward a more melodic pop sound on songs like "Mission Bell" and One Together. At the time, the band included: Jeremy Spencer (guitar, vocals, piano), Kirwan (guitar, vocals), John McVie (bass) and Mick Fleetwood (drums). Christine McVie was at the recording sessions and contributed backing vocals and the album's cover art, but she did not join the band until shortly after the album was finished. The band's shift toward pop and folk styles continued on Future Games with songs like "Show Me A Smile" and Morning Rain.

This marks the first Fleetwood Mac album with Christine McVie as a full band member as well as the Mac debut of Bob Welch on guitar. The line-up stayed the same for Bare Trees, which boasts a consistently strong collection of songs like McVie's "Spare Me A Little Of Your Love, " Kirwan's "Dust" and Welch's Sentimental Lady.

Although Kirwan was a dominant figure during the recording, penning half of the songs, this would ultimately be his last appearance on a Fleetwood Mac album. While most bands undergo a number of changes over the course of their careers, few groups experienced such radical stylistic changes as Fleetwood Mac.

Initially conceived as a hard-edged British blues combo in the late'60s, the band gradually evolved into a polished pop/rock act over the course of a decade. Throughout all of their incarnations, the only consistent members of Fleetwood Mac were drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie -- the rhythm section that provided the band with its name. Ironically, they had the least influence over the musical direction of the band. Originally, guitarists Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer provided the band with its gutsy, neo-psychedelic blues-rock sound, but as both guitarists descended into mental illness, the group began moving toward pop/rock with the songwriting of pianist Christine McVie... 4LPs Plus 7" Vinyl Single.
